Flame arrester, Detonation (in-line, vertical), is intended to extinguish flames moving at the supersonic speeds in gas pipelines where they are installed.
The flame arrester contains a flame element, designed to be three to four times larger than the diameter of the pipeline, in which it is installed. The flame element consists of rolls of crimped stainless that form passages through which gas can pass. The area of these passages determines the level of protection of the flame arrester and type, Detonation (in-line, vertical) has a MESG (Maximum Experimental Safe Gap). This makes it suitable for gas groups IIB and IIA.
Detonaton flame arresters are most robust than our deflagration flame arresters and can withstand higher pressure required to extinguish detonations. It must be installed in pipelines with a significant distance to potential sources of ignition and in a vertical plane.
