Deflagration (in-line with WECO connection) flame arresters are passive devices that prevent flames from entering and igniting the content of pipelines and vessels that emit flammable gases and vapors. The flame arrester contains a flame element consisting of tight rolls of crimped steel. These steel rolls form passages for gas and vapor but retain flames. The size of each passage determines the level of protection the flame element provides. Type Deflagration (in-line with WECO connection) provides optimal safety due to its MESG (Maximum Experimental Safety Gab) and its WECO connection. It is suitable for gas groups IIB and IIA.
Under normal circumstances, this flame arrester allows the flow of vapors and gas in both directions, but it introduces a pressure drop that must considered when designing the system.
