Grain and feed industry

Handling of grain and feed often consists of a chain of closely interlinked processes, where organic material is sorted, grinded, transported, intermingled and packed. The organic materials represent a fire hazard and its processing can build up explosive concentrations of dust. Typically fires and explosions happens in mills, ventilation, filters, mixers, conveyors and silos.

In order to minimise the risk of fire and explosion-related incidents, existing and new organisations in the grain and feed industry are required to undertake initiatives aimed at increasing the security of employees, production facilities as well as structures. The minimum of these initiatives is described in the European Union’s ATEX directive.
