Chemical industry

In the chemical industry, substances are produced and turned into chemical product. The processes involved in turning these substances into product often bring about the development of explosive or incendiary concentration or dust or vapour in machinery and facilities.

In order to minimise the risk of fire and explosion-related incidents, existing and new organisations in the chemical industry are required to undertake initiatives aimed at increasing the security of employees, production facilities as well as structures. The minimum of these initiatives is described in the European Union’s ATEX directive.
